My Pharmacy Work Experience Paper During the five days I was there, I observed a lot of teamwork, and in my opinion that’s what is keeping the organisation going so successfully. When the forms have been filled, the patient details would be typed onto the computer system and saved, and an appointment booked for them at the same time. I was lucky enough to do all this on the final day! This way, the receptionists are doing two different jobs, hence are getting more done. Whereas, in the Pharmacy, there seemed to be teamwork all for one purpose which is to supply medication for the patients. In the GP, I observed that there were different jobs taking place, from doctors seeing the patients to shredding by secretaries. I did have to do this unfortunately, which was definitely the least enjoyable part of my experience, but it is all part of the teamwork! In addition, in the GP, it is compulsory that every member of staff (discluding the doctors but including the manager) to complete one hour every day of attaching patient details onto the computer system. There is a great amount of scanning etc. to be done here and when I had arrived, there were about seven thousand sheets of different patient details on the computer system needed to be attached! For this reason, teamwork is crucial and the member of staff must co-operate to complete the one hour of attaching. However tedious it is, it is very important. I enjoyed every minute of my time in the pharmacy, and I also learnt a great deal. I just love working with medicines and I enjoy looking at the long names of medication and learning them. I now feel incredibly knowledgeable after my work experience. I know that if someone asks me what medication they need if they have a certain illness, I can tell them (for instance, high cholesterol levels which can lead to coronary heart disease- they should take Simvastatin tablets to lower these levels). Moreover, I liked helping patients and at the end of the day I felt a wonderful satisfaction. In the future I want to be helping people in this way and also feeling that I have genuinely helped some people with their lives. I experienced many different things from observing how the ICT in the organisation works, to observing how the staffs work as a team to get things done quickly and efficiently. Because of this, there were aspects of the work experience that I found more useful than others. Firstly, I wasn’t allowed to use ICT because the software used by the pharmacy is a patient database and here there is sensitive patient information. I was only permitted to observe what happens on the computer system. Hence, this part of the experience I found tedious and least useful. On the other hand, I found Wednesday (day three) probably the most useful and at the same time the most enjoyable. I got told on the Tuesday that this would be the busiest day, as it usually is, and it certainly was! There were approximately 100 prescriptions (as I said before). There were a lot of people just walking in too, requiring medication and these people had to be supplied with medication immediately so they don’t wait for long and later complain about poor service etc. These people also had to be dealt with in order to prevent arguments that someone had been served before them. There was a lot of pressure, especially on me as I had to work to a high pace, minimise mistakes and make sure that I collected exactly the right medication. Greatest pressure on me was when I received a walk-in prescription with many items on it. I made sure that I did not swap it with a prescription with fewer items on it, as I wanted to impress. Having said this, I enjoyed that day the most as I personally like challenging myself and I enjoy being out of my comfort zone. In addition to this, by the end of the day I felt a great satisfaction that I helped a lot of people by supplying them with the right medication. I do not recall making any mistakes even though I did sometimes ask for help (better safe than sorry! ). I feel during the 5 day work experience that I have matured a lot- as a person I have also improved. I have learnt that communication between your colleagues is extremely important as I have seen how teamwork is an essential part of the organisation. As a result, I have improved my communication skills with my colleagues. I also did a 5 day work experience at Solihull Healthcare and Walk-In Centre, and there I learnt to communicate well with the patients as well as my colleagues. At the GP, I was lucky enough to use the computer system (called SystemOne) on a daily basis. I attached patients’ details and records, and on my last day I booked a couple of appointments. ICT is clearly extremely important in both the GP and Pharmacy, and I cannot say in which organisation ICT is more important, but I can definitely say that without ICT running both organisations would be very difficult indeed. In the pharmacy, ICT is used to order new stock of medication when certain medicines run out; I discovered that the inhalers ran out quickly as so did the Simvastatin tablets, showing that many people suffer from asthma and high cholesterol levels. There were a lot of diabetics too, in particular older people suffered from diabetes. In contrast, the GP used ICT mainly to book appointments, register new arrivals who now pay tax to the Solihull Council and to attach patients’ details, which are on paper (written by the doctors), to the computer system.

For instance, advertisement showing some children engaged in partying or drinking behaviors teach teenagers nothing good but rather creating awareness of immoral activities that do not inspire them achieve successful lives. Televisions need to involve teenagers in choosing what is morally right for displaying to the viewers. Some television channels are after making money and care less for the morals of children. This is because the immoral adverts pay huge amounts of money and the television media could reap high profits. To combat these practices, the development of media act is necessary in order to regulate these activities by the television media to promote a better future for the teenagers. The activities of the television service providers h ave minimum regulation and this limits interventions of state authorities. The developments in the social media have also enabled the uncontrolled monitoring of the children access to unwanted content. There are very many social network platforms used by teenagers at the back of parents’ knowledge. THE COCA AND THE COCAINE WAR The current â€Å"War on Drugs† involves skirmishes in an arena with two fronts: The consumer and the manufacturer. The successes and failures of the battle are not clearly identified without first looking at how the battle can be ultimately won. When it comes to cocaine, the problem of punishing the whole instead of the individual is hard to define. Many countries use the raw ingredient, the coca plant, as part of a social and cultural structure. The only way to win the â€Å"War on Drugs† is to focus war efforts on fighting the manufacturer of the finished cocaine product.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The â€Å"War on Cocaine† has been trying to fight a battle on two fronts. The first objective of the American government is to deter the consumer from using illegal products. The genesis of punishment against users is sited in the 1914 Harrison Act, in which addicts and others that possessed drugs were punished for buying or possessing cocaine or heroin without a prescription (Bertram, 26). This act began a trend that still today allows law enforcement to arrest the user along with the supplier. The supplier (drug trafficker) is the key in this type of police action, because most of the time the user will be unaware of the exact origin of the substance or have any knowledge as to where it was purchased or manufactured. The main problem with this type of arrest is that 70 to 75 percent of the narcotic arrests per year are for possession and only 25 to 30 percent are for actual drug trafficking offenses. Although the user should not be overlooked, a greater emphasis ought to be focused on the supplier in order to reach the actual manufacturer of the illegal substances.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The other front of the battle of the â€Å"War on Drugs† comes from locating and shutting down the manufacturers of cocaine. Cocaine is manufactured from the coca plant, the drug’s main ingredient. When the government imposes sanctions on different nations for growing the coca plant, careful considerations must be made. Just like any other market, there may be underlying circumstances for growing the plant that are perfectly innocent to the illegal cocaine market. The key influence of the coca market comes from the Andean countries of South America: Peru, Bolivia, and Colombia. These countries are responsible for almost exclusively cultivating the coca plant, but Colombia is the main processing nation of the plant into cocaine, at nearly 70 percent (Stares, 2).

We are in diverse world, a world of differences and unique situations. For example, it is the mandate of the Law that children should study and that it should be financed by our parents, for most, in their primary and secondary, and for those born with golden spoons on their mouths, up until their college days or Ph. D. We have different priorities and our human values are made up of the inward and outward factors of the societies we were brought up. We also have different needs, from small things like ice cream, electronic gadgets, to houses and cars. According to the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a person has deficiency needs and growth needs. Before he advances to the next level of need, he should have met the previous need. That’s what is happening to us. The people around us such as our parents, relatives, and friends nurtured us. Once the fourth level of need was accomplished (achievement, recognition, or approval), we now aspire for growth. The common growth that can lead us in higher positions in society, with huge paychecks, and luxurious lives, is the growth in education. We could have not known that this growth is priceless until we have engaged in jobs or in the professional world. However, once a person is in the marketplace, he has been wrapped up with some daily concerns, from her work, and, once he gets at home, from the concerns of his family. And though there’s an opportunity of a higher education, it has been covered up with the loads that we have from the concerns above. Like most of us, I also have dreams for the future and my goals are going to be a lot difficult to reach if I have not planned it critically. I made use of the Step Decision Model as my guide. I am fond of teaching kids, yet I didn’t have enough money to pay for the tuition in a university. That is my problem. In addition, my mom is already old and I only earn through peer and personal tutorials. I have the option to stop realizing that education is an infinite learning. Yet, I insist to make a decision. I weighed down my options. The little money I earn can be used to pay my tuition fee and travel expenses or it can help me buy the needs of my family. Finally, I enrolled in a kind of college that I have recently found out to be enjoyable, educational, and very convenient—distance learning. This is an alternative from the kind of education that we get from the four corners of the classroom. Distance learning offers lots of conveniences for me—it makes me save up my money and makes me much available to aide my mother. However, before, I had difficulty in focusing to my subjects due to conflicting schedules. There were times that I prioritized the tutees that I had because it was their exam week and they needed greater time of assistance. There were also instances that I had family gatherings and reunions that I almost forgot to accomplish a certain project. It’s my decision to study so I should be responsible and make the best out of it. If I really want to earn a degree, I should be serious about it even to the littlest things. Conflicting schedules should not interfere with my studies. I now make sure that every time I study, I have a conditioned mind. Also, at first, I thought that I can’t have a quality education unlike those students in the usual college setting, but I was proven wrong. In distance learning the professors consistently interact with their students. And as a learner, I enjoy the benefits of having my mentor’s attention even if he or she is very distant. With that, I have developed the confidence to communicate with people even of higher ranks and they have properly guided me. As part of the human dimension, a balanced life needs a clear or if not a detailed set of priorities. Learning is fun but we should understand that distance learning is not different from any other learning. We should be serious with it. We should be eager to learn and to focus. Proper time management and the passion to pursue our dreams make will make us enjoy our studies while performing other responsibilities to our loved ones and to our works.
